SocialRadar was founded on a singular vision: everyone connected.
Our merry band of code ninjas, designer thinkers, media mavens, and solomofos are determined to change the way the world connects. Here's a little scoop on us:
Michael Chasen | CEO
Entrepreneur. Innovator. Visionary. Michael Chasen is the CEO and Founder of SocialRadar and has recently learned to write in one-word sentences.
Michael's previous venture, Blackboard, Inc., created e-learning software that is now used by over 30 million students and faculty at more than 20,000 institutions around the world. In Michael's 15 years as CEO, the company experienced rapid growth: establishing an enterprise software division, a software-as-service technology and a mobile software group; pioneering the first true cloud solution for education; and positioning Blackboard as a leader in open source. When Michael took Blackboard public in 2004, it was the second best performing IPO of the year. Seven years later, Providence Equity Partners bought Blackboard for $1.7B.
Michael created Blackboard because he thought that the Internet was going to fundamentally change the way people teach and learn. Michael has now started SocialRadar because he believes that the combination of mobile, social media, and location services will redefine how people meet and connect in person. And SocialRadar is building that technology.
When Michael is not building the team, designing the product, or micromanaging the marketing plan, he focuses on being a Jon Stewart look-alike. Michael hopes that when Jon retires he is called to the plate.
Ghafran Abbas | Chief System Architect
Ghafran helped to build SocialRadar technology from the ground up as our Chief System Architect. By day he builds SocialRadar, by night he builds SocialRadar. Before joining SocialRadar, Ghafran was VP of Engineering and Chief Software Architect at Tenpearls where he oversaw development of mobile technologies and online application systems. He also served as team lead at Time Warner Cable where he spearheaded a BI solution to increase sales and productivity. Ghafran architected and developed high scale web and mobile applications for many companies and received a BS and MS in Information Systems from Johns Hopkins University. Only 1 in 5 people can correctly pronounce his name.
John Fontaine | VP of Google Glass Development
John leads SocialRadar's Google Glass team and can often be heard saying "OK Glass! OK Glass! OK Glass! Italiano." (Thanks, SNL.) Prior to joining SocialRadar, John pioneered core Internet technologies at Blackboard and was a principal author of Blackboard Learn, the hybrid and distance learning platform, and the lead developer on two award-winning applications, Blackboard CourseSites and Blackboard for Salesforce. Prior to Blackboard, John developed websites and interactive technologies for a variety of clients, including SAP, Mobil Oil and the Washington Redskins. John speaks four languages, and all of them loudly since he has no voice modulation.
Kevin Alansky | Chief Marketing Officer
Kevin has a high degree of expertise in social media. He was the person who first answered the question "If you send a tweet and no one has subscribed to you, does it make a sound?" Kevin serves as the Chief Marketing Officer at SocialRadar. Prior to joining SocialRadar, Kevin spent 12 years at Blackboard. where he played a key role in integrating social media into the corporate marketing strategy. He led the Blackboard Social Marketing Team, which leveraged these new technologies to increase brand awareness, customer engagement and lead generation. Kevin has also held executive marketing positions at Discovery Communications, Washington Wizards & Capitals and Arnold Worldwide, where he managed SAP and McDonald's accounts. Kevin is also our company tough guy and Michael Chiklis look-alike.
Leigh Cullen | Creative Director & Head of UI/UX
Leigh is a juggler of design hats and is also a juggler of regular hats. As Creative Director & Head of UI/UX at SocialRadar, she shifts between product design, web design, and digital and traditional branding. Leigh has worked in design for more than a decade in both public and private sectors. Before joining SocialRadar she worked at Blackboard where her responsibilities included prototyping products, designing executive keynotes, and art directing brand and marketing projects. Leigh's award-winning work has been published in books and in online galleries as well as displayed in New York's Times Square. Google selected her to be a Glass Explorer and we look forward to her learning Italian.
Shana Glenzer | VP of Social Marketing
Shana works to attract, acquire, and engage the SocialRadar audience as Sr. Director of Social & Content Marketing. In her #dctech tees, she spreads the SocialRadar vision by being, well, social. Before joining SocialRadar, Shana experienced marketing agency life at R2Integrated. Before that, Shana held an eight-year tenure in a variety of sales and marketing leadership positions at Blackboard and was one of the top sales people in the Blackboard Mobile sales division. Shana also served as a trainer and client manager at SMARTHINKING Inc. early in her career. While her marketing role is critical, her primary responsibility is running the SocialRadar Halloween party – we keep her around the other 364 days just to give her time to prep.
Janis Butler | Business Administrator
Janis keeps the team and office running smoothly as SocialRadar's Business Administrator. Without her we'd all still be sitting on the floor and Michael would be triple-booked every day. Janis comes to SocialRadar with over 20 years of administrative experience. She previously served as Executive Assistant to Michael during his tenure as President and CEO of Blackboard. Prior to joining Blackboard Janis was the Executive Assistant to the Vice President of the University of the District of Columbia. Janis is also an expert in "on the fly" scheduling as Michael often changes his travel plans while he is literally in midair.
